|Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus||
Orthoptists are Health Care Professionals working in Ophthalmology. The orthoptic department at our institute was established in 1995. In the beginning it was run by a renowned orthoptist Miss Christine Weidner from Austria. She built up the strength of our orthoptic department by training other orthoptists following international guidelines. Currently, we have two well trained and experienced orthoptists. They specialize in assessment of infants, children and adults with strabismus. They have vast experience in diagnostic evaluation and treatment of:
In children, vision is fully developed before 9 years of age so patients have to be treated as early as possible. If treatment is started earlier then we can easily achieve our goal by improving the vision. Children may not be able to express their vision problems. If child is not diagnosed or treated during the critical period of visual development then permanent visual impairment may occur. Orthoptics department of Al-Shifa has all the facilities and trained professional staff to help your child in enjoying sound eye health.
The unit is well equipped with age appropriate vision assessment tests, wide range of stereo-tests for all age groups and Hess Chart. Patients may be treated with glasses, prisms, exercises or patches. Patients may need surgery which is performed by pediatric ophthalmologist.
